JAZZ P is a female lyricist and singer, born in a small African kingdom situated in the south of Africa called Swaziland. Her birth name is Phephile, meaning “survived/safe” in her native language Siswati. She started her musical career at a very tender age and had a serious passion for writing songs since the age of 5, singing after the Mariah Careys, Jill Scotts, Erykah Badus and, at the same time, loving the flow and feel of the ragga/reggae artists such as Yellow Maan, Burning Spear, Buju Banton, Capleton, Sizzla and others. Jazz P has been in the music industry for almost thirteen years now, owing her budding success to her persistence through all those struggling times in the pursuit of a musical career. She has spent 10 years performing in her home country and the remaining 3 in her current country of residence: Mozambique. Her first love - Hip Hop - has earned her the rightful respect in the music circles, that has aided in as far as recognition and support goes.
In her music Jazz P speaks of spirituality, love, femininity and life and has been maturing to a blend of hip-hop with other genres like soul, blues, reggae and jazz with a seasoning of afro elements.
She is Swaziland's First Lady of Hip-Hop and one of the most respected MCs in Mozambique, having established a young band of musicians named 'The Next Generation', spotting fresh sounds of hip-hop, soul, afro-jazz, reggae, etc.
In 2007 Jazz P performed in Swaziland's annual international Bushfire Festival, with Outspoken-A, Zimbabwean hip-hop/reggae artist. She has also done a collaboration show with Lady Thanda (Thanda Richardson) a female ragga artist from Zimbabwe for Zimbabwe´s 'Black History Month'. She performed for her king - King Mswati the third - and for the president of Mozambique, Gebuza, in a function that took place in the President`s residence. She has returned to Bushfire Festival in 2013, with Ras Skunk (Mozambican roots reggae artist).
29th of July will see the release of her new EP called “In My Heart”, recorded in Maputo, Mozambique at B Records Studio. The soulful beats from producer Da Page were able to bring out wonderfully the core of her musical essence for the masses, hence the title of the EP. It came from the heart. Hare Krishna
